Collection: Capsicum Chinense

Most hot, superhot, and ultrahot peppers fall within the Capsicum Chinense species. This species has a very long growing season compared to Capsicum Annuum, with many requiring 180+ days to maturity. Due to this seeds in most North America growing zones, seeds must be started indoors 14-16 weeks before transplanting after risk of frost has passed, when soil temperatures are ~70F. There is, as with most peppers, a risk of flower abortive drop when ambient temperatures exceed 96F. Multiple harvests are possible late season. Pods can take a long time to ripen on plants - some as many as 30 days before full ripening after the pod forms.
