Native Region: Amazon Rain Forest (Peru)
The venerable Habanero, cultivated as a crop for over 8,000 years based on archaeological finds, became globally popular when spread by Spanish explorers; it was later mistaken to be from China in origin. In fact, the entire species of pepper plant (c. chinense; "chinese pepper") was mistakenly named thinking the pepper was Chinese in origin. It wasn't until later that archaeological findings showed it's true origin deep in the Amazon rainforest!
We won't go in to great detail on preparation, as this pepper is so wildly popular everyone in America should be familiar with it by now. It is a very versatile pepper for cuisine, used widely in sauces, and extremely tasty!
Sow 14-16 weeks prior to transplanting out after all risk of frost has passed. Plants can grow 7' tall and 6-7' wide, so take care when spacing. Harvest can easily exceed 2+ bushels per 100 plants every 2 weeks during peak maturity.
NOTE: There is some wide genetic varieties in our seed stock, with some hybrids to be expected. Our rows of habanero were flanked on one side by Carolina Reaper, and on the other side by TFM scotch bonnet. So expect some diversity in genetics. Example phenotypes are shown in the images below from the 2018 harvest. Pods were LARGE, palm sized, and great tasting with an intense heat.
